Global warming problem, an encroaching danger

Talking about global warming and climate change that is more severe, what do you think of?

A dying white bear?
Water that erodes the coast every year?
Or the image of a mountain of trash clumped into a giant island in the middle of the ocean?

We believe that the global warming problem or Climate Emergency is a problem that we have known for a long time. We can see the pictures every day and many people have solved it in a way that they can already do. However, the problem is that we are still wondering whether what we are doing really affects the world or not. During the period which we still doubt, the situation is getting worse and worse every moment until it reaches a crisis. We all need to start and join altogether in seriously solving this problem.

SCG and the Global Warming Crisis

SCG pays attention to and has the passion for solving problems seriously and continuously.We set greenhouse gas mitigation target in supporting the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees celsius and net zero in 2050 under the business operation following the approaches for Sustainable Development and ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) business model that focuses on environmental stewardship to create livable society and manage the business according to the principles of corporate governance in all business units.

8 approaches to Net Zero in 2050

1. 1. Increase the use of biomass and renewable energy such as the use of energy pellet from agricultural waste or solar energy system solutions
   2. Modify process and equipment to enhance energy efficiency such as adopt Artificial Intelligence technology to manage energy in production units. The result shows energy saving by over 40,000 gigajoules per year
   3. Research and development of technologies such as emisspro® R Series is a high emissivity coating for industrial furnaces, which can reducing the greenhouse gas emissions more than 200,000 tons of CO2 per year.
   4. Develop products, services and solutions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions such as SCG Green Choice, a label that certifies products and services to promote environment and hygiene.
   5. Apply economic tools to promote greenhouse gas emissions reduction such as adopt Internal Carbon Pricing (ICP) scheme as tool in investment decision making, at the rate of USD 18 per ton of CO2, project that is ICP-evaluated is: Energy cost saving project through installation of rooftop solar cell of 0.5 megawatt which can reduce the greenhouse gas emissions for 326 tons of CO2 per year.
   6. Develop “Green Supply Chain” for logistics sustainability towards customer, community and transportation contractors which can reduce the greenhouse gas emission for 8,000 tons of CO2 per year.
   7. Forestation and rehabilitation of terrestrial forest, mangrove and seagrass as carbon sink such as the project to plant 176,070 trees to reduce global warming and to build 100,466 check dams to increase moisture.
   8. Awareness raising on energy conservation and climate resilience such as the global warming campaign starting with us that gave us more than 100,000 ideas from more than 65,000 participants to reduce global warming.

The solution to the problem is to cooperate.

Only SCG solely may not be able to achieve broad success. Therefore, we would like to be cooperated with all sectors to join in overcoming this crisis and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
