Innovations to Prevent Against COVID-19

“Circular EconomyInnovations: Caring for the Earth and Protecting Ourselves”

Less Resources, More Demand

It is undeniable that the use of resources as raw materials is necessary for the manufacturing of goods. However, with limited resources on earth, manufacturing processes may be affected, especially during the COVID-19 crisis when certain products are in high demand as people are seeking protection against the spread of the virus. Therefore, circular economy that focuses on using resources to “produce-use-reuse” is an important method that can be utilized to efficiently manage and handle this problem.

Modern Innovations: Developed According to Circular Economy

Thus, SCGP has developed innovative products in line with circular economy during the spread of the COVID-19 virus as follow:

  • U-Space Partition by Doozy Pack has been developed to cater to the New Normal where social distancing is key. The partition is made of corrugated paper which comes in various sizes and dimensions so that customers can install them in numerous ways. Moreover, the partition is easy and convenient to install, lightweight, foldable, uses little space, and most importantly, environmentally-friendly as it is made from recycled materials and can be recycled once no longer in use.
  • Water Soluble Bags are an innovative packaging to increase safety and lower the risk of spreading the virus which may be contaminating on clothing. The film packaging has been developed to become soluble, and contaminated clothing can be placed into water soluble bags and in the washing machine without the need to open the bag or separate the clothing. Once wet, the bag slowly dissolves without any residue within 3-15 minutes, then, the contaminated clothing inside is washed with water and detergent in a normal manner without leaving any residue. The product is also proven to be environmentally-friendly. Moreover, the company is developing water soluble bags for use in other industries such as the textile and the consumer goods industry.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)for Medical Personnel has been developed to address PPE shortages using machine-glazed 25 GSM paper which is thin and lightweight as it is pressed under high pressure while it is also partially waterproof. Then, the PPE is coated with PE Matt & PET which enables it to become 100% waterproof. Moreover, SCGP has joined hands with Ban Rang Wan Garment SewingCommunity Enterprise to sew PPEs from paper as well as test the PPEs and develop the suits according to advice from doctors and nurses.

Catering to Consumers’ Demands and Staying Environmentally-Friendly

While these products have been manufactured to lower the risk of the spread of COVID-19 virus, the most important thing is to apply circular economy to the manufacturing process which will enable resources to be used to its maximum value throughout the process. Moreover, circular economy promotes people in society to become more aware of the importance of efficient waste management while limiting the use of new resources at the same time.
